A silted culvert is why the garden floods

Culverts and large-diameter surface-water runs silt up quietly. The first sign is often a flooded garden, a ponded carriageway or a field that will not drain after rain that used to disappear overnight.

We survey first with a crawler camera where the diameter allows, then jet, grab or mechanically remove the silt and debris. If the barrel is cracked or collapsed we will show you the footage and quote a repair rather than promising a clean will solve a structural problem.

Why choose Drain 247

Local engineers

Based across Hertfordshire, so we are not travelling in from another county.

24/7 emergency response

A real person answers the phone at three in the morning, not an answerphone.

Fixed, transparent pricing agreed with you before any work starts.

Over 150 five-star reviews

Most of our work comes from recommendations and repeat customers.

Older drainage systems

Specialists in the pitch fibre and clay runs common in Hertfordshire properties.

Survey and repair together

CCTV surveys and no-dig repairs available on the same visit.

What the visit covers

Condition survey

A crawler or push-rod camera so we know whether we are looking at silt, roots or a collapsed barrel.

High-volume jetting

Enough water and flow to move silt in a large-diameter run, not a domestic jetter stretched beyond its job.

Silt removal

Arisings are taken away rather than flushed into the next landowner’s problem.

Root and debris clearance

Mechanical cutting where vegetation has taken hold at the inlet or through a joint.

Farms, estates and highways

Private culverts, estate roads and land-drainage outfalls as well as domestic surface-water runs.

A report you can keep

Footage and a written note of remaining defects, useful if a neighbour or authority later disputes the cause of flooding.

Surface water has nowhere to go

A silted culvert is often the reason a garden or carriageway floods in the first heavy rain. We can inspect and quote the same visit.

Common questions about culvert cleaning

How do I know if the culvert is the problem?

If surface water used to clear and now ponds after ordinary rain, the outfall is the first place to look. A camera survey tells you whether it is silt, a collapse, or something downstream that is not yours.

Can you work on a culvert under a road or driveway?

Yes, provided we can access both ends or a chamber. We will not recommend excavation through a carriageway until the camera has shown that lining or a clean will not do.

Do you take the silt away?

Yes. Flushing it into the next landowner’s ditch is not a clean. Arisings are removed and disposed of properly.

Culvert blocked or silting up?

We survey, jet and clear large-diameter runs and culverts for homeowners, farms and local authorities.
